Four years on since the release of his rather splendid debut "Junk Shop" - a rich hybrid of British power pop and lush, orchestral psychedelia - Benoit Rault remains a veiled purveyor of some of the most sumptuous and quirky pop music currently on rotation. Opting with "Drifting" to buff the edges slightly - revealing a subtle depth to his sound that was previously undetectable - the kooky Frenchman this time couples curious instrumentals (the baffling "One Day After The Other") and brain-frazzled hush ("Song From An Unknown Film") alongside his chief framework of melodic lo-fi pop. It’s an enticing formula that if nurtured will push the adopted-Brit forward as a later-day Beck. Lovely stuff. www.logo-magazine.com
